Variations are the spice of life. In this episode, pianist Sara Davis Buechner demonstrates how Mozart used the slow movement of his Sonata in C major, K. 545 to teach his students how to improvise. Improvisation is the art of adding embellishments, or extra notes, to repeated musical material. But how do you embellish something written so perfectly? Sara gives her best effort, then shows the master's own example, demonstrating once again why mere mortals should stick to just playing the piano!

Sara Davis Buechner will be performing the entire cycle of Mozart Piano Sonatas at Alti Hall in Kyoto, Japan in a series of four recitals in September 2018. For more information, visit http://saradavisbuechner.com/schedule/
