00:00 Introduction
This review has been conducted using the Bespoke Unit Fragrance Formula, a quantifiable review matrix that you can learn about via the link above.

00:31 Fragrance Overview
Often overlooked by more iconic fragrances, Givenchy Gentleman is a classic that was released in 1974. The nose behind it was Paul Leger and the batch used for the review is 9K01.

01:01 Composition
Opening up with a blast of spiciness, the headnotes deliver cinnamon, honey, and rose. The cinnamon eventually fades yet persists well into the heart.

The heart of the fragrance consists of patchouli, which is another dominating note. It is accompanied by orris root and parma violets. A subtle hint of jasmine offers a mild floral scent.

The patchouli continues throughout the base. A hint of vanilla provides a sweet softness while oakmoss emphasises the patchouli's earthiness. Meanwhile, musky civet (synthetic civetone) adds a rich substance to the fragrance's overall composition.

03:58 Wake & Strength
The dry-down is quite conventional but the performance is excellent. The sillage leaves a thick trail behind the wearer and the projection creates a distinctive scent bubble. Meanwhile, the longevity performs throughout the best part of a working day.

In terms of seasonality, it's a great option for the colder months. We suggest wearing it from late autumn to the end of winter.

05:04 Third-Party Feedback
People of all genders may find Givenchy Gentleman a little dated as it's characteristic of its period. It is best enjoyed by men and women in their late 30s or above. Meanwhile, younger people tended not to find it overly pleasant as it smelled quite old-fashioned to them.

06:09 Impressions
Givenchy Gentleman is best worn by a man in their 40s or 50s. Although younger men can wear it, it's worth bearing in mind that it's quite powerful and may feel inconsistent with their youthfulness.

It's a fragrance that can be worn at the office or for formal occasions. It's an excellent evening scent but can also be worn during the day. We suggest that men below middle management from either wearing it discreetly or avoid wearing it as it's quite authoritative.

After all, this is what we regard as an El Macho "Sex Panther" type fragrance.

7:39 Presentation
Unfortunately, the presentation is still a little dated. The bottle is quite plain with a silver-coloured stamp and black cap that's reminiscent of a top hat. The packaging is more contemporary with a geometric G pattern. It's somewhat reminiscent of Blade Runner, though!

The atomiser creates a thick mist but it's easy to over-apply. Furthermore, it has a tendency to water gun, which can be messy.

In arms of value for money, it's surprisingly expensive! While other classics like Aramis and Dunhill for Men cost around $30, 100ml of Gentleman is $78! Therefore, we would not recommend it as a blind buy and suggest that you try it first. However, if you're a firm fan of retro fragrances, you won't be disappointed.
