A planned hazard reduction burn in Manly spiralled out of control posing a threat to historic buildings while hundreds of visitors were evacuated from Sydney Harbour National Park.

The fire was lit by authorities on Saturday morning as a controlled burn through ten hectares of land at Blue Fish Point.

The NSW Rural Fire Service has only reached a third of it’s controlled burning target as they race the clock to prepare for fire season.
