In early vedic time family was the besic unit of society.the family was patriarchal in nature, but women enjoyed equal power with men, Early vedic period BC 1500 - BC 1000 , marriage was usually monogamous and indissoluble. the term varna was used for colour, the aryans being fair the dasas dark, when the aryans entered in india there was already a class division here. the tribal society got divided into three groups warriors, priests, commoners. later the fourth dases or shudra was also added. In Rig vedic age the aryans loved music and played the flute,lute,harp. there are references to singing and dancing and to dancing girls ,people also delighted in gambling ,they enjoyed chariot racing both men women wore ornaments. Early vedic people were fond of sura ,soma, food and dresses , soma drunk at sacrifices and its and its use was sanctified by religion, sura was purely secular and more potent. The Vedic society was patriarchal and patrilineal. Early Vedic Aryans were a Late Bronze Age society centred in the Punjab, organised into tribes rather than kingdoms, and primarily sustained by a pastoral way of life.
