Since moving into our home, our yard has always been infested with gophers, and they literally ruined our yard, destroyed our trees and killed our plants. The yard had become a depressing site for me, and I was not very motivated to work on it. Until I discovered the gopher hawk on a facebook gardening group I'm a member of.

It was payback time for all those years of messing up my yard, I immediately started using the gopher hawk. The first time I set the trap I was able to catch a gopher in it the next day. It was surprisingly easy and effective. My property became a gopher kill zone and within a few months I had gotten up to 8 of those buggers. It seems like I won the war, and I have rid myself of them for a long time. Well what had happened was the gophers would migrate over to my neighbors property and they started breeding again.

By the beginning of this growing season I had discovered several more mounds, and immediately got to business again catching gophers with traps. I expected to have some stragglers come through my property, so it was not big deal. I caught 2 and I was sure that would be it for the rest of the year.

Well several months go by and I see mounds coming back near my soursop tree. That was simply unacceptable, so I set out two more traps near the mounds. Well I wake up the next morning to discover that both traps had been triggered. I quickly grab a shovel to dig them out of the ground. The first one was a confirmed kill, which got my heart racing with excitement. But I was not ready for what I discovered on the second trap.

So it looks like gophers will keep invading my yard indefinitely, and it's my job to take them out as quickly as possible, to give my plants a fighting chance.
