The University at Buffalo and its Center for Industrial Effectiveness (TCIE), in partnership with the Digital Manufacturing and Design Innovation Institute, has launched a “101” series of massive open online courses (MOOCs) that provide an in-depth look at manufacturing’s “Fourth Revolution” of digital-based technology advances. The Digital Manufacturing & Design Technology Specialization is available on Coursera, the world’s largest open online education provider.

The specialization, consisting of ten courses with a comprehensive project, provides a foundation in how digital advances are changing the landscape and capabilities of factories and their operations. Topics include digital manufacturing and design practices, the concept of the digital thread, the Internet of Things and Big Data, to name a few. Learners have the opportunity to create a roadmap for achieving their own personal goals related to the digital manufacturing and design profession, as well as interact with other learners through discussion forums and peer reviews.
