During a press conference in Berlin with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, Anwar Ibrahim addressed Malaysia's ties to Hamas, emphasizing that the connections are with Hamas's political wing and not its military arm.

Anwar clarified to European colleagues and the United States that Malaysia has no association with any military outfit. He urged understanding of the root causes of the conflict, rejecting the narrative that solely focuses on the events of October 7, highlighting decades of atrocities against Palestinians.


Chancellor Scholz reiterated Germany's stance that Israel has the right to defend itself against Hamas's attacks. He expressed the desire for more humanitarian aid to reach Gaza, unconditional release of hostages, and minimizing unnecessary casualties.

Scholz also called for efforts toward long-term peace and a two-state solution.
