The Mitchell (pre-300 full and half bail fishing reels)

Описание к видео The Mitchell (pre-300 full and half bail fishing reels)

This is a short video of my small collection of 'The Mitchell' fishing reels (apologies for the lack of a verbal description), which were produced around the late 40's to early 50's, before the 300 model name was applied to them (1956 or 57 I think?). The earliest reel here has the round anti-reverse knob.

Cosmetically, 3 of the half bail reels were in a bit of a sad state, and so were professionally restored without changing any original parts.

At the front, are three Mark 4 or version 4 reels with a full bail, but (as mentioned earlier) no 300 designation; one of them, (a late 1953) has a nylon or delrin transfer gear.
I believe it was not until late 1954 that the UK received full bail
models, unlike the US who got them a year earlier due to Hardy's full bail patent remaining in force in the UK.

The earlier reels have no serial number, but do have various stamps on their foot (e.g. 5, V, F, 3 etc).

Three later half bails have an Axxxxx serial number, stamped on the rear concave top of the reel foot, though I have seen one very late example with an A serial number on the main body.

The Mark/Version 4 reels have their serial numbers stamped on the outside of the main body, near the top edge.

Most of the reels here are in excellent original condition.

Thank you for watching.
