On July 27, 2024, Monroe County Sheriff's Deputy Marin stopped a vehicle for having expired registration. The vehicle was being driven by a 29-year-old woman. Deputy Marin called Deputy Pope to assist him in determining if the woman was intoxicated. When Deputy Pope arrived, he questioned the woman very briefly before telling Deputy Marin to have her exit the vehicle. Once the woman was out of the vehicle, she refused to perform field sobriety tests. Her mother in Oregon was called and only contributed to the woman's anxiety. The driver was eventually arrested and placed in the back of Deputy Marin's vehicle. Her mother was called again and she continued to threaten the deputies for how she perceived her daughter was being treated. The woman refused to submit to a breath test.
