How can we determine if two triangles are congruent? We will cover that in this lesson! Here is an overview on the four main triangle congruence postulates. In this math lesson we go over the side side side, side angle side, angle side angle, and hypotenuse leg triangle congruence postulates. They are also defined below.

The side-side-side congruence postulate tells us that if two triangles have three pairs of congruent sides then the triangles are congruent.

The side-angle-side postulate tells us that if two triangles have two pairs of congruent sides, and those sides' included angles are also congruent, then the triangles are congruent.

The angle-side-angle postulate tells us that if two triangles have two pairs of congruent angles and their included sides are congruent, then the triangles are congruent.

The hypotenuse-leg postulate tells us that if two right triangles have congruent hypotenuses and one pair of congruent sides, then the triangles are congruent. Be careful to not mistakenly apply this to other triangles. One congruent angle and two congruent sides is not enough, that angle must be 90 degrees.
