WATER TO PAINT RATIO Explained (Understanding Paint Consistency)

Water to paint ratio. Getting this right, and understanding it, will make a big difference to your watercolor paintings.

Whilst it may sound simple and obvious, it is far from, and the consistency of paint can make or break a painting. Try and paint a cat's whisker with thick paint, and you will quickly ruin a painting. For this sort of detail, you need a paint that will flow, and that isn't going to suddenly run out of the brush half-way through. In this video, I demonstrate close up, and explain how to mix different consistency paints. I look at both watercolor pans and tubes, and we also take a look at how varying the consistency can affect how the paint covers a previous layer.
