Vagus Nerve Yoga: Phoenix Rising
Join us for a live class: https://drarielleschwartz.com/vagus-n...
When we have a history of personal trauma, the collective intersects with our personal trauma…however, when we are committed to our inner journey, we not only respond to our own pain with more love and equanimity, but we learn to relate to the pain of the world with a measured capacity to lean into pain without and rather than joining with the chaos, we contribute to peace in our surroundings with our presence.
Yoga is not only about calming down, it is about waking up, empowering you to feel more, and to feel resilient in the face of stress. Yoga is about tapping into your power, claiming your truth, and having your voice.
At a Physical level, this class is focused on finding a long spine through axial extension…creating space in the spine to embody your dignity. This creates space around your kidneys to release compression or collapse. Helping move out of fear reactivity in the body. The creates space around your heart…to open to space for love to flow through you…even when we might want to contract or withdraw, can we continue in this world with an open heart?
Card from the Post-Traumatic Growth Deck: Phoenix Rising
You have walked through a transformational fire. Just as the phoenix rises from the ashes, you are emerging with powerful strength that cannot be taken away from you. You might question how you can live in a world that has betrayed you and that could betray you again. You have experienced harm and loss in this world. Do not forget that this is also a world of love and care. There is a great maturity in being able to hold the truth that times of pain are an inevitable part of life. The phoenix within you helps you recognize that life can include excruciatingly difficult moments and still be magnificently beautiful.

Today's poem:
What My Body Knows
By Dr. Arielle Schwartz
What couldn’t be known was housed within,
a burning and churning deep inside.
If only I could have screamed,
a cry so loud,
it would have rung all the alarms.
Wake up! Wake up!
Instead, the calls were trapped
in webs of
self-doubt
second guesses,
disowned truths.
The wailing pushed underground
Hush, quiet, be still.
Do
not
rock
the
boat.
When no one listens,
do we stop hearing our pain?
Numbing my senses,
I denied what my body knew,
leaving behind
only the fog of confusion.
I got lost inside the self-blame,
the shame,
until the day
when my body began to speak.
Pain, tension, heaviness, burning,
Boiling, gripping, bubbling, churning.
Without words,
my body told the story,
until with loving presence,
she offered her kindness,
“tell me it all,
let it all come out.”
My breath cleared the path,
Churning and burning,
spiraling out from within.
Smoke and fire,
underworld emerging,
light shining
phoenix rising,
Coming back to my senses
the courage to speak,
to know what I know
and have known all along.
No longer will I
live in a lie
or silence myself
just to belong.
What my body knows
Guides a path towards wholeness
Unwinding, revealing, softening, releasing,
Letting go of the past
To live in the present
With a depth of connection
Untouched at the core
Joy emerging,
through unwavering clarity
I stand now in my truth,
Anchored evermore.
