Description :

Charulata is a humble attempt to reminisce the genius of Satyajith Ray and Rabindranath Tagore. Through the 1964 film Charulata, Ray tried to interpret India's cultural past and the identity of women found in Tagore's Novella Nashtanir. Here, Shruthi Namboodiri, through this audio-visual representation titled Charulata, attempts to reinvent the beauty of Ray's cinematic virtuosity by placing the story of Charu and Amal at the time of national emergency in India. The video portrays the changing dimensions of India's social and cultural landscapes and the freedom of speech and expression during that period.

Casting makes it really unique. Parvathy Menon plays the role of Charulata. Hari Narayanan, noted Malayalam lyricist is acting as Amal and music director Bijibal takes up the role of Charu's husband Bhupati.
