रामनगर से ढिकाला की यात्रा करते समय एक सामान्य व्यक्ति आमतौर पर गर्जिया मंदिर से आगे सड़क के उस हिस्से को देख लेता है जिसे हाल के वर्षों में एक खाई के बगल में सड़क के किनारे एक सुलभ इंटरफ़ेस के रूप में बनाया गया है। रानीखेत या भर्त्रोजखान सर्किट पर जाने वाले अधिकांश वाहन इस मंदिर में रुकते हैं और पुजारी आपके पास 'आरती' और 'तिलक' थाली लेकर आते हैं। जैसे ही आप कण्ठ पर बने शोरगुल वाले पुल को पार करते हैं, सड़क खड़ी और घुमावदार हो जाती है। सड़क से एक किलोमीटर आगे एक समतल भूभाग में गिर जाता है और दो भागों में बंट जाता है। यहीं से सुंदरखाल की शुरुआत होती है। सुंदरखाल, जैसा कि नाम से पता चलता है, जिम कॉर्बेट नेशनल पार्क के बाहरी इलाके में एक आकर्षक छोटा सा गाँव है। एक तरफ कोसी नदी और दूसरी तरफ कॉर्बेट की पहाड़ियां, सुंदरखाल आमतौर पर विश्व प्रसिद्ध राष्ट्रीय उद्यान के मुख्य प्रवेश बिंदु - रामनगर से धनगढ़ी तक जाने वाले पर्यटकों द्वारा अनदेखी की जाती है। लेकिन जो लोग यहां की सुंदरता का आनंद लेने के लिए यहां पल-पल रुकते हैं, वे सुंदरखाल के शापित गांव के खतरनाक रहस्य से पूरी तरह अनजान रहते हैं।

While traveling from Ramnagar to Dhikala a commoner usually overlooks the part of the road beyond Garjia Temple which in recent years has been made as an accessible interface on the side of the road beside a gorge. Most vehicles traveling on Ranikhet or Bhartrojkhan circuit stop at this temple and the pujari comes to you with an 'aarti' and 'tilak' plate. As you cross the noisy bridge immediately made on the gorge the road becomes steep and curvy. A kilometer beyond the road lands into a flat terrain and bifurcates. It is at this point that Sunderkhal starts. Sunderkhal, as the name suggests, is a charming little village on the outskirts of Jim Corbett National Park. Flanked by River Kosi on one side and the hills of Corbett on the other, Sunderkhal usually gets overlooked by tourists zipping from Ramnagar to Dhangarhi- the main entry point to the world-famous national park. But even those who stop here momentarily to savor its beauty remain blissfully unaware of Sunderkhal's dangerous secret of a cursed village.
