Athens 2004, the first Olympic race of America's Dana Vollmer who competed in the 200m freestyle and placed sixth but won a gold medal as a member of the winning U.S. team in the 4×200m freestyle relay, together with Natalie Coughlin, Carly Piper, and Kaitlin Sandeno. In addition to claiming the gold medal, the relay team broke the previous world record in the event that had stood for 17 years.
