A Perfect Start: My First Day in Bergen, Norway 🇳🇴
My Norwegian adventure began with a seamless check-in at the Citybox Hotel, a fantastic and modern spot right in the heart of Bergen. The hotel's self-service concept was incredibly convenient, allowing me to drop my bags and head straight out to explore. The room was clean, comfortable, and had everything I needed to get settled.
The first order of business was to find some authentic Norwegian food, and what better place than the iconic Bergen Fish Market (Fisketorget)? It was a short, picturesque walk from the hotel, with colorful buildings and a lively city atmosphere. As I approached the waterfront, the fresh, salty air filled my lungs, and the vibrant scene of the harbor unfolded before me.
The fish market was a feast for the senses. Stalls were overflowing with an incredible array of fresh seafood—from plump shrimp and king crab legs to different kinds of salmon and local delicacies. The vendors were friendly and eager to offer samples, making it hard to decide what to try first. I settled on a classic: a rich, creamy bowl of traditional Norwegian fish soup (Fiskesuppe) and a fresh shrimp sandwich. It was the perfect meal to warm me up and kick off my culinary journey.
After a delicious lunch, I took my time wandering along the historic Bryggen Wharf. The rows of colorful, wooden Hanseatic houses are even more charming in person than in pictures. I soaked in the atmosphere, imagining the centuries of history that have passed through this UNESCO World Heritage site. It was an unforgettable first impression of this beautiful city.
