In a significant development underscoring the deepening defence partnership between New Delhi and Moscow, Russia is conducting feasibility studies to assess the investment required to manufacture its advanced Su-57 fifth-generation stealth fighter jet in India, according to a report by ANI. This move aligns with India's stated requirement for two to three squadrons of fifth-generation fighter jets, with the Russian Su-57 and the American F-35 emerging as key contenders for the prestigious project.
The Indian Air Force's need for cutting-edge stealth fighters has prompted Russia to explore local production possibilities, leveraging India's existing defence manufacturing infrastructure. Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL), a leading public sector undertaking, already produces the Russian-origin Su-30 MKI fighter jets under license at its Nashik facility. Defence sources indicated that this facility could potentially be adapted for Su-57 production, streamlining the process and reducing costs.
