Azhi Dahaka, also known as Zohak in Zoroastrian mythology, is a significant figure in ancient lore, representing chaos and evil. His name, which means "biting snake," reflects his nature as a malevolent force. In Zoroastrianism, Azhi Dahaka is described with three heads and three jaws, each symbolizing pain, anguish, and death. Additionally, he possesses six or eighteen eyes, fangs, and wings. His body is infested with venomous creatures such as spiders, snakes, and scorpions, which, if released, would spread corruption throughout the world.

Created by Angra Mainyu (later known as Ahriman), the embodiment of evil in Zoroastrian belief, Azhi Dahaka is a powerful symbol of destruction. His actions include causing storms, droughts, and diseases. Initially, he preys on cattle but later turns to humans, including the first king, Yima. The myth recounts his usurpation of Yima's rule, which lasts for a millennium before his eventual defeat by the Persian king Fereydun. In some versions of the myth, Azhi Dahaka is bound under Mount Davand by Fereydun, while in others, he is chained to a rock and left to die under the sun, illustrating the triumph of good over evil.

In Babylonian lore, Azhi Dahaka is depicted as the king of Babel with serpents emerging from his neck. His role in governing storms and causing drought aligns with his destructive nature. The stories emphasize his significant impact on the natural order and his eventual defeat, highlighting the ongoing battle between order and chaos in mythological traditions.
