🕊️ Did You Know ?
Did you know that the Shaheedi of the Sahibzaade in December 1705 is not a single event, but a series of sacrifices that unfolded over several days, revealing extraordinary courage at every stage? After the Battle of Chamkaur in early December 1705, Guru Gobind Singh Ji and his family were separated while escaping Mughal forces. At Chamkaur Sahib, the two elder sons of Guru Gobind Singh Ji, Sahibzada Ajit Singh Ji and Sahibzada Jujhar Singh Ji, chose to face the enemy despite knowing the odds were impossible. On December 7, 1705, Sahibzada Ajit Singh Ji, only 18 years old, and Sahibzada Jujhar Singh Ji, just 14, entered the battlefield one after the other. They fought with unwavering resolve and attained Shaheedi while defending their faith, justice, and the principles of the Khalsa.
Meanwhile, the two younger Sahibzaade, Sahibzada Zorawar Singh Ji, aged 9, and Sahibzada Fateh Singh Ji, aged only 6, were separated from their father along with their grandmother, Mata Gujri Ji. They were betrayed and handed over to Mughal authorities, then taken to Sirhind. There, they were imprisoned in the Thanda Burj, an open, cold tower, during the freezing winter nights of December 1705. Despite their age and the harsh conditions, the young Sahibzaade remained firm in their faith. Wazir Khan, the governor of Sirhind, attempted to pressure them by offering wealth, comfort, and safety if they agreed to abandon Sikhism. The children refused without hesitation.
On December 26, 1705, Sahibzada Zorawar Singh Ji and Sahibzada Fateh Singh Ji were sentenced to death and bricked alive for refusing to renounce their faith. Their grandmother, Mata Gujri Ji, attained Shaheedi the same day after hearing of her grandsons’ martyrdom. These events are remembered every year during December as Shaheedi Sahibzaade, not as a story of tragedy alone, but as a lesson in moral strength, resistance against injustice, and unshakable belief.
The Shaheedi of the Sahibzaade stands as a reminder that courage is not defined by age, and that even the youngest hearts can carry the strongest convictions.
They were children by age, but warriors by faith — and history still bows to their courage.
