Landshut is a city in Bavaria, Germany, on the Isar River, the administrative center of the Lower Bavaria region. Landshut celebrated its 800th anniversary in 2004. The city of Landshut and the fortress of Trauznitz were founded in 1204 by Duke Ludwig I of Bavaria. Already in 1231, Landshut became the seat of the Wittelsbachs and in 1255, when the Duchy of Bavaria was divided into two parts, Landshut became the capital of Lower Bavaria. Duke Henry VI was the first of three famous dukes who ruled Bavaria-Landshut in the 15th century. The wedding of Duke George and the Polish princess Jadwiga Jagiellonka in 1475 was splendidly celebrated in Landshut. This wedding is dedicated to one of the largest historical reconstructions in Europe, the so-called. "Landshut wedding", held every four years.
