This video discusses a reunion between attorney David Levy and Buelah, a patient who was denied long-term disability benefits despite having a significant emotional illness.
It is easy to tell from listening to Buelah’s side of the story that she has a deep respect and fondness for what David Levy was able to accomplish for her in getting her the benefits she needed so she could take the time to get her life back.
More significantly, though, it is obvious that she feels very grateful to David Levy for the way he made her feel at a time in her life when she felt discouraged and hopeless.
Buelah also discusses how her case was somewhat unique in that she had worked, for many years, for insurance companies – on the other side of the denial issue and how disconcerting it was, after her years of service, to be on the receiving end of a denial.
Buelah also confides that she doesn’t remember much of the mechanics of the trial – going through discovering and, later, through mediation – other than being scared and stressed out. She comments on how David Levy helped her get through all that and begin to feel like she was so much more than her illness and that she really did have a life beyond the mental and emotional aspects of her illness.
