On December 16, the UBC School of Biomedical Engineering held its first open house (virtual of course) where people could learn how SBME is endeavouring to build a future where biology and technology seamlessly meet to transform health, healthcare and medicine for all.

This free, online event showcased how biomedical engineering research, education and innovation are changing how we as a society approach the challenges of healthcare.

We also gave the public a tour of our future home, Canada's Living Laboratory, direct from Architecture 49 and Patkau Architects, the firms collaborating on the design of a building that is agile, ever-evolving, and devoid of scientific or academic boundary.

There was a public Q&A and breakout conversations with our research faculty, and remarks from SBME Director, Dr. Peter Zandstra on how far we’ve come and where we’re going next.
