Video shows our visit to Nostell Priory on 23rd March 2023. We showed the Gardens and Parklands in an earlier video, this video shows our look inside the beautiful Georgian Treasure House.
The house showcases interiors by Robert Adam, a collection of furniture by Thomas Chippendale with over 100 items ( Including the 18th century Dolls House) and longcase clocks by John Harrison a renowned inventor.
The house is one of the great treasure houses of Northern England and was a statement of the Winn family dating from 1733 built with money made from the London textile trade.
The house was given to the National Trust in 1953.
The house was built on the site of a medieval priory founded in the 12th century dedicated to St Oswald an Anglo Saxon King of Northumbria. The Priory was dissolved by Henry VIII in 1540.
