In October of 2021 I took part in the 3rd edition of the Two Volcano Sprint, a 1200km ultra race from Mt Etna in Sicily to Mt Vesuvius on the Italian mainland. This was the second time I'd done this race.

A nasty cold front hit the field on the first night as we climbed up away from the coast on the main land and into the remote national park. The next day was a struggle after spending 6 hours shivering on a park bench overnight. That evening I decided to wait up for my brother in law so we could turn race mode off and enjoy riding together to the finish line.

What a great decision and a fantastic experience this made the race. Whilst we still covered big distances every day we did get plenty of sleep and I was able to relax and enjoy the scenery and the food.
