Curious Seal Encounter | When Chaos Turns into Snorkeling Magic

What started as a calm snorkeling session at Little Corona del Mar in So California quickly turned into one of the wildest and the most unforgettable underwater marine animal experiences we’ve ever had.

We dropped into the water expecting an easy reef swim: clear visibility, a few fish, maybe a glimpse of a Garibaldi or two. We were enjoying the underwater views with calm conditions and not a care in the world… until the surf suddenly shifted. A set of waves crashed right over the reef, slammed me into the rocks, and sliced up my ankle. Heidi somehow escaped unscathed (as always 😅) in this wipeout!

As we raced for shore to get out of the shallows, something incredible happened — a juvenile harbor seal appeared out of nowhere. Instead of swimming off, he came right up to me. For over three minutes, this curious little seal circled, floated, sniffed our camera, and even gave it a gentle kiss. I will never forget this wildlife encounter, I made a sea animal friend and in that brief moment created a memory for a lifetime. We feel blessed to have had this special mamal encounter.

This video isn’t a tutorial — it’s a story. A real moment. Proof that sometimes the best adventures are the ones that don’t go as planned.
