Gujarati weddings are as famous for their traditional customs as they are for their colorful and lively pre-wedding rituals.
These rituals begin with the Chandlo Matli ceremony, where the bride’s father visits the groom’s home with four family members. He applies a red circle (chandlo) on the groom’s forehead and formally fixes the wedding date.
Next comes the Gol Dhana ceremony, which marks the engagement.
After that is the Mehendi ceremony, where beautiful henna designs are applied to the bride’s hands.
Then comes the Sangeet Sandhya, a night of celebration with traditional Gujarati songs, garba, and dandiya.
Before the wedding's auspicious time (mangal muhurat), both the bride and groom perform Ganesh Puja in their respective homes to seek blessings. They also conduct a Griha Shanti Puja for peace and prosperity in the household.
Then comes the Pithi ceremony, where the bride is anointed with a paste of turmeric, sandalwood, rosewater, and perfume.
Another emotional and important ritual is Mameru, where the bride’s maternal uncle gifts her wedding bangles and jewelry.

on the wedding day, a light-hearted and fun ritual called Jaan ceremony takes place. When the groom tries to touch his father-in-law’s feet for blessings, the father-in-law playfully pulls his feet away — making everyone laugh and enjoy the moment.
