Fantasy on Arirang and Amazing Grace

Описание к видео Fantasy on Arirang and Amazing Grace

In honor of #AAPIMonth, we present to you an arrangement of the traditional Korean folk song, "Arirang" combined with the classic hymn "Amazing Grace".

#NavyMusic connects members of your United States Navy with Americans across the nation and abroad, but it also builds international relationships by singing in different languages and playing pieces that are culturally significant. There are about 3,600 different varations of "Arirang", which is sung today in both North and South Korea, and represents the symbol of unity in a region that is divided.

While the word "arirang" does not have a precise meaning in Korean, many translate it to "my beloved one". Lyrics and translations vary by region, but here is a translation of the Seoul/Gyeonggi Arirang:

My beloved one, my beloved one, my beloved one
My beloved one is going over the mountain
If you leave and forsake me
Lame you will be before going three miles
