On the 16th February 1974, a Leeds United team considered the best in the world as European Cup Winners Cup holders, unbeaten in 29 games in the first division and destined to win the First Division title, came to Ashton Gate for an FA Cup 5th Round tie and were forced to a replay the following Tuesday after Keith Fear equalised a goal from Billy Bremner.

City were given absolutely no chance in the replay by the late Bill Shankly who’s Liverpool team awaited the winners in the next round but Shankly and 1000’s of travelling City fans were at Elland Road to witness one of Bristol City’s FINEST victories in the club’s history when Donnie Gillies netted a 73rd minute winner…

On the 17th February, most of the team walked out onto the pitch to take the applause of the Ashton Gate crowd prior to the game against QPR.
