Welcome to today's episode of the trichologist podcast. my name is William Gaunitz, certified trichologist and your host of the trichologist podcast.

Today’s episode is sponsored by advanced trichology so go ahead and check that out.

Today i'm going to get into the primary and the most focused reason for people's hair loss concerns.

There are three reasons for hair loss: DHT, nutrition, or inflammation.
What is DHT? Dihydrotestosterone. It's literally a single molecule difference from testosterone, and it is very simple to fix. Follow along my tips to see what the best solution is.
Here are a couple of things for you to know if DHT hair loss is impacting you:
1) If it only affects the top of the head.
2) It is a genetic type of hair loss, so you may be able to trace it back in your family history.
3) Timeline. For men, anytime after the age of 18, male pattern hair loss will kick in after puberty. Women will not have hair loss until their estrogen and testosterone drop off typically after menopause. In women it s known as androgenetic alopecia.

DHT can be reversed as long as the hair follicles have not atrophied. You typically have a period of 3-5 years from when you notice the hair loss beginning.

What are your options?

Men
You can be very effective at blocking DHT by not allowing DHT from being created in your blood. The drug finasteride blocks the conversion of testosterone to Dihydrotestosterone.
In my opinion it should only be used under Doctor’s supervision.
Another path for men, which is the path I choose for my clients, is a more natural way. You can use an internal DHT blocker from Advanced Trichology that decreases the volume of the DHY impact on the hair follicle. It does not change the amount of DHT in your body. It is substantially less effective than Finasteride, but it does not come with any gnarly side effects.
Melatonin can also be used as a DHT blocker when used topically.

Women
NutraM topical melatonin can be a great way to stop DHT, as well as an internal DHT blocker from Advanced Trichology.
If you do have PCOS or are on Hormone replacement that is spiking your testosterone, then you need to decrease it to the 40 range. You need a drug (Spirolactone) that suppresses the androgens.
