Etiology for deep vein thrombosis can be acquired or congenital. Acquired could be because of an illness or due to post-operative long term mobility. Congenial will be an anatomical defect in the veins. Most common cause of deep vein thrombosis will be a long travel, be it an air travel or a road travel, a transcontinental, or by road or rail, it is possibility of a deep vein thrombosis. Deep vein thrombosis which can be carried to the brain or the most of the times to the lungs, then the pulmonary thrombosis can happen. A surgical patient, post-surgery, most of the time not immobilized to that extent that deep vein thrombosis happens and which can be carried to the pulmonary, that is the lungs. Bedridden patient, he can develop deep vein thrombosis. For which a post-surgical patient is given a prophylaxis of rivaroxaban or some other injectable or some other tablets to prevent this deep vein thrombosis.
