“Creating ‘Green Mumbai’ with the ‘Green Earth’ project”
ASEZ WAO, Church of God Youth Volunteer Group, conducts purification activities.

On 4th February 2024 , the international volunteer organization ASEZ WAO revitalized Carter Road in Mumbai Suburban. The ‘Green Earth’ project, which purifies polluted city centers, parks, and streets, has made the area more pleasant. ASEZ WAO is a youth volunteer group of office workers of the World Mission Society Church of God (Chairman Pastor Kim Joo-cheol, hereinafter referred to as the Church of God). The group name ASEZ WAO contains the meaning of ‘Save the Earth from A to Z, We Are One Family.’

On 4th of February 2024 at Carter Road, Bandra West, about 220 ASEZ WAO members, family members, and colleagues carefully inspected a 1km section of the street and collected various household waste such as food packaging, plastic waste, cigarette butts, and discarded paper. The trash that volunteers picked up over the course of two hours filled 1200 liter bags.

An ASEZ WAO official said, “As the pace of global tropicalization is accelerating, climate disasters are becoming more frequent. “Saving the Earth is an issue directly related to the survival of mankind,” he said. “As creating a comfortable home that God has granted to mankind is the first step in protecting the Earth’s environment, young people, who are the leading figures of the future generation, have come together.”

The expressions of the residents brightened as they cleaned the area with energetic steps.

The Senior Police Officer of Bandra West Police Station Mr Gaikwad and Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai (MCGM) also welcomed the news of young people's volunteer work and provided cleaning supplies such as garbage bags and other cleaning materials.

ASEZ WAO's 'Green Earth' activities include Mumbai, Pune, Ahmednagar, Palghar and several states like Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, West Bengal, Chhattisgarh, Meghalaya, It is unfolding dynamically in states such as Karnataka and Gujarat. This is not the only earth-loving activity among young people. We carry out ‘No More GPGP’ to reduce plastic waste, ‘Blue Ocean’ to protect the marine ecosystem, and ‘Mother’s Forest’ to plant trees around the world to respond to climate change. As part of the ‘Green Workplace’ project to practice water conservation, power conservation, and conservation in workplaces where people spend a lot of time during the day, challenges such as ‘using public transportation,’ ‘riding a bicycle,’ and ‘using a handkerchief’ are also active.

The hands of young people reach out to all corners of the community in need. During the COVID-19 pandemic, we visited hospitals and government offices on the front lines of infectious disease response and held a ‘Heart to Heart Relay’ to cheer on quarantine officials and medical staff. Disaster relief activities included fixing new roofs to houses damaged by the typhoon, and blood donation events were also held to alleviate blood supply shortages. For this dedicated service, we have received merit awards and letters of appreciation from the State of Maharashtra, Minister of Social Justice and Special Assistance, the Chhattisgarh Minister of Health, and the Mayors of Ahmadnagar and Vasai-Virar.

As young people from the Church of God around the world participate in ASEZ WAO activities, its activities are prominent in various parts of the world, including the United States, the United Kingdom, Korea, and South Africa. For its proactive actions, ASEZ WAO received the U.S. President's Volunteer Service Award Gold Medal and also won the Green Apple Award and Green World Award, which are international environmental awards.

The Church of God, the foundation of the organization, is a global church with 3.7 million believers in 7,500 locations in 175 countries. The ‘New Covenant Passover’, which Christ himself set as an example 2,000 years ago, is kept in its original form in the early church. According to the teachings of the Bible, we believe in ‘God the Father’ and ‘God the Mother’ and practice love and service. We actively carry out environmental protection, life-sharing activities such as blood donation, and humanitarian activities to help underprivileged neighbors.
