RACE DATA:
The 1969 Belgian Grand Prix road race was the sixth Grand Prix of the road race world championship in the 1969 season. The races were held on 6 July 1969 at the Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps, a street circuit near Malmedy. In Belgium all classes with the exception of the 350cc class started.

In the Belgian GP, ​​Jan de Vries did not start on doctor's advice after he suffered some serious abrasions during a fall during training. Aalt Toersen and Cees van Dongen manned the Van Veen-Kreidlers, but they were considerably slower in training than Ángel Nieto with the Derbi. However, the Derbi was still tinkered with during the starting grid. Jos Schurgers (Kreidler) started fastest, followed by Aalt Toersen (Van Veen-Kreidler) and Jan Huberts (Kreidler). After the first lap of 14 km, Schurgers had already retired, just like Ángel Nieto. Santiago Herrero (Derbi) was now in the lead just ahead of Aalt Toersen and Cees van Dongen. After the second lap Barry Smith (Derbi) was already in second place and Aalt Toersen was already far behind him. In fourth place Paul Lodewijkx rode the Jamathi. In the fourth lap Lodewijkx retired and van Dongen took his place. In the fifth and final lap, Smith took the lead from his teammate Herrero. A tactical move, as Smith was the best-placed Derbi driver in the championship. Toersen limited the damage by becoming third.

RACE DATA:
The 1969 DDR Grand Prix road race was the seventh Grand Prix of the road race World Championship in the 1969 season. The races were held on 12 and 13 July 1969 at the Sachsenring near Karl-Marx-Stadt in Hohenstein-Ernstthal. All solo classes started. The world titles in the 125cc class and the 500cc class were decided here.

In East Germany, Aalt Toersen had a bad start, but Barry Smith's was much worse, he had to push half a minute before his engine started and wanted to get up to speed. His Derbi teammates Santiago Herrero and Ángel Nieto were off well, switching positions frequently throughout the race. On the last lap Nieto ran about 20 meters ahead and that decided the race. Aalt Toersen finished in third place after a tough fight with Kreidler test driver Rudolf Kunz. His ten points yielded nothing to Toersen: they disappeared as a stripe result.
