Kevin Fagan, who spent many years writing about and occasionally living among San Francisco's homeless, sings Don McLean's song "Homeless Brother," at Mrs. Dalloway's bookstore in Berkeley. Fagan, who recently retired from the San Francisco Chronicle, lived on the street for a time in his teen and early adult years, putting out his hat and busking on street corners. The standing room only crowd that included many of Fagan's old newsroom pals had come to hear him talk about his new book, "The Lost and the Found," which wraps his years of reporting experience inside the stories of two homeless people, Rita and Tyson. At the end of an hourlong Q&A moderated by Berkeley writer Cynthia Gorney, Fagan pulled out his guitar and busked. It worked. As book buyers lined up for Fagan to inscribe their copy, Mrs. Dalloway's sold out even after snatching the display copy. That didn't bother Dan Fost, editor of Newsphreaks, a sporadic who-done-what email blast for former Chronicle and SF Examiner newsies.
