These maps are from our local installations of SeisComP and GlobalQuake. These software packages are ingesting data from seismographs around the planet working to locate earthquakes as they happen in near real time (depending on data transmission delay times from the sources). You are watching the live video feed of these software packages at work and their products on the maps as it happens.

SeisComP is the same software used by seismologists and official agencies around the world. Watch as over 1000 seismographs around the world feed the software which then detects and locates earthquakes all over the globe. Some of these quakes are not reported by any official agency... and SeisComP will often report the event before it appears on any official stream.

GlobalQuake is the second program in use as a display and comparing the accuracy and presentation side by side. GlobalQuake is using data from over 5200 stations worldwide with waveform data feeds from nearly 20 Government Seismic Agencies and University feeds. So far GQ is hands down the winner between the two packages. GQ is actively under development and these are pre-release versions in play but so far I am very impressed with the software.

This stream is for situational awareness and educational purposes only. While the data is near real-time the data being displayed can be delayed anywhere from a few seconds to 30 minutes based on many factors from data delivery delays to YouTube delays for live Streams. There will be false detections and initial positions and magnitudes may be off until more stations provide data into the solution, even then, the solution may not be correct. We have found that 80-90% of the solutions are very close to those reported by USGS and ESMC however.
