Every human being takes birth, grows and gets old. During whole life, a person goes through different stages. these stages are named as
baby, early childhood, childhood, adolescent, adult, middle age adult, and old.

Of all the stages, a human growth is maximum during adolescence. During adolescent stage, there are lot of internal and external changes take place in the body of an individual. In fact, adolescent word is derived from the word 'adolescere’ which means ‘to grow'.

People in this period are known as adolescents. They are also called teenagers. According to World health organisation, age between 11 to 19 years is classified as adolescent period.

In adolescence, there comes a time when reproductive parts of body gets activated, this is called puberty. Testicles in boys and ovaries in girls are example of Reproductive parts. Puberty period differs for boys and girls. For boys, puberty is attained around 14-15 years of age and for girls, it is attained at the age of 11-12 years.


After puberty, girls and boys starts showing new developments. Such as:
Boys having deeper voice.
Growing of hairs in public parts and in underarms.
Growing of facial hairs in boys.
Breast size of girls getting bigger.
Pelvic region getting wider and Hip region getting bigger in girls.
Widening of shoulders in boys.
