Burn the Arduino bootloader to a blank ATMEGA328P-PU using an Arduino Pro Mini 3.3V 8 MHz clone.

After building the circuit, upload the ArduinoISP sketch to the Arduino Pro Mini. Its probably best to do this with the Arduino Pro Mini removed from the perf board and connected using the external programming cable. Once that is complete plug the Pro Mini back in to the sockets on the perf board. Then select the desired board and processor that you would like the chip you are burning to be. Then verify the Port of your programming cable and select Arduino as ISP under programmer. When ready run Burn Bootloader.

Once the bootloader is done you can you move the programming cable over the other set of headers to test out the chip. Select the blink example sketch and modify the output pin in the sketch to pin 8. Upload the sketch and check that the light blinks.

Note: You may need to use the 10uF capacitor shown on the schematic between Reset and Ground on the Pro Mini clone. I have used it successfully with and without. When I tried this circuit on an Arduino Uno R3 clone board I was unsuccessful but it worked on a genuine Arduino Duemilanove board with the addition of the 10uF capacitor. You will need to remove the 10uF capacitor when you install the ArduinoISP sketch and then re-insert it before running the Burn Bootloader.
