On October 14, 1972, a Uruguayan rugby team is flying to Santiago Chile for a tournament. The plane encounters turbulence, strays off course, and crashes deep in the Andes. Thirty-two of the forty-five passengers survive the crash, but they have little food or water, and inadequate clothing. At night temperatures drop as low as minus 40 degrees Celsius.
