BioChar Pot Trials -- Interesting First Results..

Описание к видео BioChar Pot Trials -- Interesting First Results..

It's been nearly a month since we started these trials. (Link below.) Something very interesting is happening -- we're just not sure quite what!

   • BioChar Plant Pot Trials - The Set-Up

We're using soil straight from the field (together with charcoal in varying amounts) because we're most interested in growing crops outside. Of course, if we used potting compost we would have no weeds -- but that wouldn't teach us a whole lot about what we can do with the soil we have.

Probably what we're learning in these early results is that the charcoal has some elements that are depleted in the soil. We could simply address these on their own, but the whole point about agricultural charcoal (biochar) is that it is a permanent and stable addition. Whatever effect it has should still be there in years to come.

Any suggestions why it should affect germination?

This is a trial involving Perpetual Beet, Radish, Grass and Cucumber (though the last is now defunct).
