While launching the Parliamentary Forum on Labor, Decent Employment and Productivity Tayebwa tasked the Forum to start working on a Bill on migrant employment and revision of the Pay as You Earn
Migrant workers are highly vulnerable to violation of labor rights due to their limited access to protection and justice.
Uganda being one of those countries exporting labor, has experienced hardships in violation of rights of migrant workers especially those in causal labor
The chairperson Parliamentary Forum on Labor, Decent Employment and Productivity Roland Ndyomugyenyi says the forum has put much focus on bridging employment gaps in the migrant sector, prohibition of human trafficking and child labor
Decent employment not only contributes to high productivity but also contributes to ones wellbeing. Notably there is an increase in exploitation and forced labor especially of migrant workers
The Country Director International Organization for Migration says all countries need to put in place proper employment strategies and independent labor policies
The Minister for Gender in charge of Children’s Affairs Sarah Mateke says government is already in the process of implementing all programs on proper employment

Effective migration regulations and quality employment is essential for decent wellbeing and improves on productivity
Tayebwa tasked the Forum to start working on a private members Bill on migrant employment and revision of the Pay as You Earn.
He says Uganda is the only country in East Africa with the highest charge on the Pay As You Earn which highly impacts on the employees income
