Weather Impact Alert in Northeast Ohio: Lake-effect snow and gusty winds continue

Winter weather has returned for the start of the new year, leading to the Weather Impact Alert in Northeast Ohio that will continue into Thursday.

A west wind has established across the lower lakes generating lake-enhanced to lake effect snow showers. This wind direction will target the primary snowbelt areas.

Lake Effect Snow Warnings are in effect for Cuyahoga, Lake, Geauga and Ashtabula counties until 7 PM Thursday. The warned areas could see 6-10 inches of snow, even higher totals will be possible in Geauga County or where snow bands persist. The Cleveland metro could see 1-3 inches through Thursday, higher amounts east of I-271.
