Travellers living at a disused gasworks in Eastville have been evicted following a major operation from police and bailiffs.

About 75 people, including children, had been living at the encampment along Glenfrome Road.

The road was closed early this morning (Thursday, May 20) when one member of the traveller community estimated there to be "between 200 and 300" police and bailiffs on site.

Vehicles were towed out and the majority of people had vacated by about 2.30pm this afternoon, although there was still a large police presence.

Landowner Wales & West Utilities say the group, understood to have moved in a few weeks ago, had been "illegally occupying" the site.
