US tests world's quieter supersonic jet X-59

Описание к видео US tests world's quieter supersonic jet X-59

NASA is testing the X-59 hypersonic aircraft, designed to reduce the sonic boom that has limited commercial supersonic flight over land. The aircraft uses “quiet supersonic” technology to produce a sound as soft as a car door closing rather than a deafening boom, opening up the possibility of supersonic flight without disturbing the public.
The X-59, built by General Electric, has a speed of Mach 1.4 (925 mph) and flies at an altitude of 55,000 feet (16,764 meters). The aircraft has a pointed nose and an improved Flight Vision system to compensate for forward visibility. NASA plans to test the aircraft starting in 2024, when the X-59 will fly over US cities to gather public feedback on the sound it produces.
That data will be presented to regulators in 2027, leading to the commercialization of quiet supersonic flight. The success of the X-59 could reduce air travel times, ushering in a new era of commercial aviation.
