Описание к видео How PMs are selected in India?

Who is your fav PM?

Prime Minister Narendra Modi resigned on June 5th so that a new government could be formed.
The next three days are very important because, on June 8th, India will have a new Prime Minister.
India elected its first Prime Minister, Jawaharlal Nehru, in 1951.
Now, Narendra Modi is about to serve his third term as Prime Minister.

But who chooses the Prime Minister?

The Prime Minister needs the support of at least 272 out of 543 MPs in the Lok Sabha. Although the BJP won only 240 seats, Narendra Modi can still become PM if he gains support from other MPs to reach 272.
A coalition government is when two or more parties team up. The group with the most seats shows a majority to the President. The President then asks the leader of this group to be the Prime Minister, who then forms a government with other ministers.
Narendra Modi is part of the NDA, which has 293 seats, 21 more than needed. However, the INDIA alliance has 234 seats and needs 38 more to get a majority. This makes Nitish Kumar (JDU with 12 seats) and Chandrababu Naidu (TDP with 16 seats) important. If they leave the NDA, Modi cannot form the government.
Nitish Kumar and Chandrababu Naidu often switch sides to join the winning team. So, who becomes India’s next Prime Minister depends on these two leaders.
Out of 17 governments in our country’s history, 7 were coalition governments. Prime Ministers like V. P. Singh, Narasimha Rao, H. D. Deve Gowda, I. K. Gujral, Atal Bihari Vajpayee, Charan Singh, and Chandra Shekhar led coalition governments.
