Divorce bill still recognizes marriage as ‘foundation of the family’

Albay 1st District Representative Edcel Lagman, who is the principal author of House Bill 9349 or the absolute divorce bill, emphasizes that even with the bill approved — it still respects that marriage is “foundation of the family.”

He also notes that the Constitution itself does not prohibit lawmakers from passing a divorce bill and even the Church has its own way of dissolving a marriage, “which they want to be recognized by the state.”
