In this video I'm testing the Xiaomi Redmi Note 8 Pro smartphone
as GPS with the Openfietsmap in Osmand (v 3.5.5) in comparison
with the Garmin Oregon 600. Also testing an external microphone,
the DJI OSMO FM-15 Fleximic (€6) attached to the Drift HD Ghost S actioncam.

First impressions:

Impressive readability of the Redmi's 6,5" screen compared
to the tiny 2,5" (!) screen of the Garmin Oregon. As a consequence, the battery consumption is much higher. Have to test to connectivity to the hub dynamo. For other usages like web browsing, the battery consumption seems fine, it lasts very long.

GPS Accuracy is also good, Galileo satellites are supported. Although here and there it lost tracking compared with the Garmin. Settings in Osmand were not optimal though, will set it to a higher tracking frequency.

Camera seems very good for such a midrange smartphone. Video and photos came out good, although the photos have some reddish tone and the gcam app is not yet fully supported.

The internal microphone is in stereo, very clear but also very sensitive to wind noise. Somehow I can't connect it to an external microphone. Probably an adapter can fix this issue *)

Speaking about microphones, the very cheap (€6) DJI Fleximic with windmuff performs excellent (connected to my Drift action cam).

Can't say much about the Note 8 Pro's fast processor, but it processes the 360 videos from my Insta360 camera fine.

*) I could solve it by using an audiosplitter. It is still a workaround, because the Redmi only accepts the mic when an earphone is plugged into the other outlet of the splitter. With only the microphone plugged in, it simply does not work.
