A day at Whakapapa ski field on mount Ruapehu.

We caught up with some friends and enjoyed an absolute ripper of a blue bird day up on the slopes. There was no fresh snow but the groomed runs in the morning were fantastic and by lunch time the lower runs on the mountain had softened up and turned to slush giving us great conditions to ride in. The top of the mountain was icy and a bit rough but we went up for a few runs anyway, it really feels as if you're on top of the world up there!

Mount Ruapehu is a huge active volcano that towers out of the central plateau of New Zealand's North Island. The mountain is a legitimate active volcano with 10 eruptions in the past 150 years and 60 seperate lahar's during that time. Despite this Ruapehu is the highest peak on the north island and gets the only constant snowfall on the North Island. Ruapehu alone has 3 seperate ski resorts located on its faces and in this video we are at Whakapapa which is the largest ski field and is located on the northern face of the mountain.
