Описание к видео Horizon Zero Dawn PC Patch 1.08 - Performance Optimizations | Ryzen 5 3600 & GTX 1070 benchmarks

Horizon Zero Dawn Patch 1.08 tested and benchmarked on Ryzen 5 3600 and GTX 1070.

Greetings, everyone.

Another update for HZD has been released today, and since I read “performance optimizations” I had to remove myself from playing AC Valhalla, which is bad because it’s getting quite interesting, and test this patch, another one, yeah.

My current PC specs are the following:

-CPU: Ryzen 5 3600 (stock settings) with Coolermaster Hyper 212 Black RGB (w/2 fans, push-pull).
-Mobo: MSI B450 Gaming Pro Carbon AC.
-GPU: Inno3D Twin X2 GTX 1070 (stock) and WHQL driver 457.30.
-RAM: Crucial Ballistix Sport LT (2x8GB) CL16 DDR4@3200 Mhz.
-Storage: PNY XLR8 CS3030 1TB NVMe (O.S. and game), Samsung 750 EVO 500 GB.
-Case: Fractal Design Meshify S2 (Intake: 2x140 Front, 1x120 Lower Front - Exhaust: 1x140 Rear, 1x120 Top/VRM Area).
-PSU: Corsair RMx 650W 80+ Gold.
-O.S: Windows 10 Pro 64bit (v.2004).
-Monitor: AOC AGON AG251FG 1080p-240Hz.

And some timestamps here:

[BENCHMARKS]
00:00 - Intro and Ultimate (Ultra) settings benchmark
01:29 - Favor Quality (High) preset
05:20 - Original (Console) settings
06:09 - FYI this is how Shader Compilation is displayed
06:31 - Low preset
[IN GAME]
07:11 - Anisotropic Filtering still...you know, broken.
10:46 - More AF testing (daylight, same spot)
12:08 - FidelityFX Sharpening performance impact
13:33 - In game Ultra AF vs NVCP x16 Anisotropic screenshot comparison
14:25 - Volumetric Clouds pixelation issue fixed
16:31 - Clouds Ultra vs High performance improvements
18:09 - FidelityFX Sharpening visual noise testing (vegetation)

Basically what the patch notes say is kind of true, Ultra settings have received a performance boost, around 9% on my system, but the rest of the presets remain unchanged when it comes to performance, at least from my testing I haven’t noticed any changes.

FidelityFX has been added to the game, and it’s basically a sharpening filter based on contrast, with upscaler too in case it’s needed. It works with the in game Temporal Anti-Aliasing only, mind you, probably due to upscaling reasons to maintain certain image stability, even though these regular sharpening filters can destroy any image stability if used in high amounts, only stuff like DLSS 2.0 can keep the image temporally stable enough while improving it at the same time, really.

My recommendation for 1080p is no more than 10% sharpening otherwise things like vegetation and low grass start to look too shimmery in the distance, when moving the camera.

Clouds have received some fixes too, now they won’t look pixelated when using non-standard resolutions like some of the DSR factors, or whatnot. They look fine even below Ultra now, and the performance impact of Ultra Volumetric Clouds seems to be non-existent now.

But…Anisotropic Filtering is still broken for my game and can only make it work via forcing AFx16 through Nvidia’s Control Panel…yeah, band luck I guess.

As usual, I hope this can be useful to any of you, and I’ll see you in the next one : )
