China's $10.5BN Pinglu Canal

China has begun construction on a $10.5 billion dollar canal, called the Pinglu Canal. Located in southern China, it will stretch 135 kilometers, linking the Xi River with ports in the Beibu Gulf, providing a faster route for inland goods to reach the sea. This will provide major economic benefits, while also opening up a new waterway for trade with ASEAN countries.
