ABB technology helps power soccer stadium and local community in Norway

When Odd soccer club wanted to be the greenest soccer club in Europe, and Skagerak Energi – its largest supporter – wanted an energy lab, ABB enabled both. At the newly inaugurated energy lab, 5,700 square meters of solar modules cover the rooftop of Skagerak Arena and produce a nominal power of 800kWp. Battery energy storage ensures maximum use of renewable power even at low light. The photovoltaic system powers the stadium and provides the neighborhood with clean electricity. It also allows Skagerak to collect insights into how a prosumer system – where consumers both produce and consume electricity – operates under different conditions. ABB designed and executed the project with ABB AbilityTM PVS solar string inverters and ABB Ability™ e-mesh™ technology, including an Energy Management System (EMS).
