Khoi city is the largest and most populous city in West Azarbaijan province, after the capital of the province, Urmia, and it is the second most populous city in West Azarbaijan province.

According to the census of 2016, the population of Khoi city is equal to 348,664 people, of which 198,845 people live in Khoi city.

Khoi is known as the city of sunflowers. This city is considered the first hub of sunflower and pumpkin seeds production in the country and owns the largest sunflower seed market in the country.

West Azerbaijan carpet is very popular in domestic and foreign markets, and among the hand-woven carpets produced in West Azerbaijan, small fish carpet has been registered nationally and internationally. The largest theater house in the northwest of the country is located in Khoi.

As one of the exchange crossroads between East and West, Khoi commercial area has had a significant presence in the economic history of Azerbaijan for a long time. In the past, this city was an economic center and due to its location on the famous commercial roads such as the Silk Road, Makkah Yuli, the Tarabozan-Jolfa road, it has many caravanserais, for the unloading of goods and rest for merchants, and a wide and extensive market for the trading of goods. It has been different.

The city of Khoy leads from the north to Mako and from the east to Marand and the Aras Baran (Jolfa) free zone, and from the south to Selmas and Urmia, from the west to the country of Turkey, to the province of Van, with the center of the city of Van.
